Last week one of my cakes was in a photo shoot! Whitney, owner of the Echo Park clothing shop Myrtle, put on a shoot for her June look book. There was lots of dress trying, fancy lighting, champagne, and plenty of laughs in between. Did I mention I also got to model?! Let’s just say I’m not quitting baking anytime soon… hah!
The cake was made up of five layers of vanilla and confetti (my version of funfetti) cake with strawberry swiss meringue buttercream. I just love making tall cakes. Six inch rounds are my standard size, which sounds small but deceivingly feeds a lot of people.

You can visit the Myrtle tumblr for more behind the scenes photos. I can’t wait to see the finished look book!

Thanks, Jess! We all had so much fun.
all of your cakes look so yummy and so BIG!
Thanks! Even though they are only 6 inches wide they are rather tall. I find that they’re much for fun to look at.
Thanks, Sara, for making this beautiful cake! I am happy to report it tasted as good as it looked! I may have to devise another occasion just to have another
The final photos are up at http://photolauren.com/myrtle and the cake got its close-up here: http://shopmyrtle.tumblr.com/post/25033303734/june-bloom-7
Thanks for inviting me in on the fun, Whitney! Let me know if you ever need another cake
so lovely. the start of an illustrious modeling career?!
speaking of funfetti, i actually made plain-old-not-so-great-made-from-the-box funfetti cupcakes today because the kids in my sister’s class told her that’s what they wanted for a last day of school treat. i was actually glad i didn’t have to make something from scratch because after i volunteered to make them, she decided she’d bring some for the 4th and 5th graders in the classroom next to hers too – i made over 50 cupcakes! it was intense!
Haha, no modeling career for me! I need far too much direction to look normal in the photographs.
50 cupcakes is intense, especially in a home kitchen!
