A Little Celebration Cake

Okay, I don’t really have anything to celebrate. In fact, today was sort of a weird day. I won’t go into the details though. I won’t tell you about how I tripped on a mop and dragged it 5 feet while someone was attempting to use it (sorry, mister). Nope, not going to get into that story. And I’m not going to tell you how shortly after I took these photos the cake fell over, ruining the frosting and smushing it’s side.

But I will tell you that I’ve been working hard preparing for Unique LA and that I’ve been getting emails requesting special occasion desserts. I will tell you that one of my cakes was photographed by Kate Miss of For Me, For You and is on her very blog right now. And I will share with you this sweet post that Chelsea wrote about my s’mores kit.

No, I haven’t reached that six figure salary or even quit my day job, but I think all of that calls for a little celebration. I am so grateful to be able to pursue what I love, and that other people enjoy it too! But every now and then you need someone to say, “You’re on the right path, keep going!” This baby four inch cake does just that. However miniature the milestone, everyone deserves a little celebratory cake.

  1. Sara, this is such a thoughtful, beautifully written post. I have so many awkward moments, it’s not even funny. I will join you in celebrating mini-milestones with cake. Have a wonderful weekend!

  2. You are on the right track! That cake is awesome. Most cakes are adorned with rosettes and other frilly designs but this one is plain and simple and I like it. Such a refreshing look!

  3. I was so happy when I saw the post on Kate’s blog featuring you and your cake!

I’m singing “Celebration” by Kool & the Gang right now for you. Inwardly…. but still!

Today I made a layer cake for the first time in years (because the last time I tried it turned out MISERABLY), and as I made it I kept thinking – “This totally isn’t a Sara-level creation… but I like to think she’d be proud of my attempt…..” hahaha

Also – in regards to your mop moment: my life is a steady stream of those. To the extent that sometimes my friends will say things like “you are REALLY awkward, Mal”. Let’s just be proud of it.

That mop thing sounds like something out of a movie though. My most movie-esque tripping moment was when I was studying abroad in London & walking down a super-busy street with tons of groceries and I tripped on a crack in the sidewalk and fell. It was literally like something you see in a movie – everyone around me stopped in a sort of circle -staring – and two teenage girls actually LAUGHED and one said to the other all gleefully “Did you see that!?!?!”

It is one of my biggest regrets that I didn’t walk over to her and dump one of the containers of milk I had just purchased over her head.

    • I had that song stuck in my head the whole time I was writing this post! And then for the rest of the day.

I feel pretty bad about the mop incident because he was just trying to do his job. It just so happens that he didn’t see me walking by and I was in such a hurry that I just kept on walking while it was still attached to my foot. But you definitely should have dumped milk on her, and then throw chips. Like a modern day tar and feather.

  4. sara, you are doing so great!!! you have come so far and put yourself out there and look at the great rewards! 2012 will only get better for you and i hope to see every step of your success!! you always have my support and rogers too!! :D

  5. everything about the presentation of this cake makes me so very happy, it’s beautiful! and your cause for celebration really resonates with me because i feel like i’m in a similar boat … i havent ditched the day job but i have begun pursuing a career in what i love (in my case design). i hope you don’t mind i’m going to mention you, in particular your cake, on my blog. keep up the good work! x natasha
