Big News




For the last few weeks you might have heard me mention how I’ve got a lot on my plate with an important deadline looming my way. Back to back catering events with the big project sandwiched between meant lots of stress and little sleep. But I’m happy to finally let you guys know what I’ve been up to!

I will be selling Matchbox Kitchen cookies and other goodies at the 4th annual Unique LA holiday show! The photos I posted as a sneak peek were for my online shop (which you can find right here). To say I am excited is an understatement, but it feels a little surreal as well. I spent the whole week nervously anticipating the email telling me whether I got in or not, and right up to last Friday I genuinely thought I wasn’t going to get in. The thought of being rejected was so heartbreaking that it made me realize how much I wanted it. I will be honest and say that I kept hemming and hawing whether or not this was something I really wanted to pursue.  There’s so, so much work involved in starting a food related businesses (and any business in general). I told myself not to get my hopes up and not to think about all the fun stuff like booth design until I knew for sure.  And now that day is here and I am extremely grateful, excited, scared, nervous, the list goes on… I try not to think about it too much or else I get overwhelmed, haha.

Anyway, I hope that if you’re in the LA area on December 3 and 4 that you’ll come by to Unique LA and try some sweets! I hope to have a special treat for blog readers, too, so don’t be shy. The coming weeks are filled with lots of work and I’ll be sure to update you guys on my progress.

Last but not least, a huge thank you goes out to my friends Van and Karina for designing my packaging! They had a very tight deadline to work with and delivered exactly what I was looking for. We’ll be working together more until the big show comes. So if you’re looking for a couple of great designers look no further than these two.  They were such a pleasure to work with and I can’t wait for more meetings and start some taste testings with them!

  1. hurrah, sara! i wish i could be there to see your booth in person. i can’t even imagine how complicated it is to start a food business. do you have to have health inspection sort of things of your cooking area? i have no idea. but. i presume you’ve got a lot of stuff to deal with. good luck! & once again – hurrah!

    • Thanks, Mallory! It actually depends on what state you live in, but in California you must work out of a licensed commercial kitchen. Some states have a “cottage law” which allows you to work out of your own home though.
